Another Heat Wave in Melbourne!

I'm so hot and bothered! The temperature in Melbourne reached 42° C today (that's about 107° F, which is more than I ever had to endure in Michigan) and Daddy and Uncle Kevin left the house around noon so they could hike it to the shopping mall called Melbourne Central and live in air conditioning all day, but they couldn't take me along so I had to stay in the flat all day and there's no air con here and it was so hot that all could do was curl up in the corner and sleep. And they finally got home about 8:30 pm and it was still about 38° outside (that's about 100° F!!!) and it didn't get much cooler when the sun set, so after Daddy gave me my dinner I sat in front of the fan in the living room like this:

And I know it doesn't look like the fan was moving (after all, this is a still photo), but believe me, it was blowing on full speed, and I was still hot! So Daddy took a thick paper towel and wetted it with cold water and rubbed it all over my fur, and I loved it! I don't know how outdoor kitties stand it, like my friend Diamond in Adelaide (where it's been hot for even longer than here in Melbourne), or my nextdoor neighbor Indy. Last night she was roaming around our little neighborhood block by tiptoeing on the fences, like this:

Don't her eyes look great? I think they shine just like a possum's. Of course, it was a bit cooler last night, so Indy had the energy, but I don't know what she did today to stay cool. And the weather report for tomorrow (Tuesday) is that it'll be hot again and get up to 36° by mid-afternoon (that's 97° F!!!) before a COOL CHANGE in the late afternoon, and then there shall be much rejoicing, believe me, because we're all sick of this heat!

The Third Day of the New Year

This evening I've been napping on the couch and leaning my paws on Uncle Kevin's arms, and Daddy thought I looked cute, so he took my picture AGAIN. And I was napping because I had another busy morning watching the birdies from my spot behind the Christmas tree:

And when a birdie got really close, I pounced!

But of course that darn window was in the way again.

The Second Day of the New Year

Today is Saturday and it's the second day of the new year 2010 and I've been watching birdies all afternoon and relaxing on the couch all evening and Daddy keeps taking pictures of me!!! He can't get it through his head that I don't like the flash on his camera:

So Daddy took a couple pictures without the flash, but there's still a red light that flashes (something about "red-eye correction") and it bugs my eyes so I always look away:

And if you're wondering what those white specks are on the couch, it's styrofoam bits that came out of a box that contained a lamp that Uncle Kevin was assembling, and it got all over the place.

Finally I decided to ignore Daddy and get to napping (I've had a busy day watching birdies, after all), but Daddy even takes pictures of me when I'm sleeping!!! Can't I have any privacy?

Still, I do look pretty cute, don't I?

Happy New Year 2010!

I'm enjoying the first day of the new year 2010 by making Daddy play with me with my Christmas toy:

This is the toy that I didn't swallow, and I love it 'cause it has a little bell that dings whenever I chase it:

And yesterday I spent the last morning of the old year curled up in the drapes in the sunshine. I know I'm lazy, but do I look fat?
It was SO HOT here in Melbourne yesterday, up to 38° C (that's over 100° F!) and at first I enjoyed laying in the sun, but my mid-afternoon I couldn't stand it any more, so I hid in a cool corner behind the TV set, like this:

My new friend Diamond lives in Adelaide where it was even hotter! (And if you'd like to see a picture of him on his balcony, follow the link under "My Favorite Blogs"). But in the early evening the clouds started to come in, and there was a stunning cloud that looked just like a crocodile:

And at the stroke of 9:00 pm it started raining and there was a thunderstorm and the temperature dropped to about 26° C (that's about 78° F), and that's what people around here call "a change" and I loved it! And about an hour later Daddy's friend Uncle Andrew showed up and they went with Uncle Kevin to a New Year's Eve Party with Asta and Pussy Galore II and their humans. And I didn't get invited (which is OK, since it was raining "cats and dogs" that night and I would have hated it), but I smelled my friend Asta's scent on Daddy's clothes when he came home, and the scent said "Happy New Year, Oscar!"

It's been three weeks now since Uncle Kevin had surgery on his stomach, and all that time he hasn't let me sit on his tummy, but tonight I'm insisting on it, so he put a green pillow on his tummy and stretched out on his back so I could climb on, like this:

And now he's mine for the rest of 2010!
